Joint Program
The University of Texas at Dallas offers an innovative Biomedical Engineering program in collaboration with UT Southwestern Medical Center. This joint program presents students with unique opportunities to engage in research that bridges basic science and clinical applications while also participating in developing cutting-edge technology companies. This partnership equips students with valuable skills in medicine and biomedical engineering, fostering advancements in healthcare innovation.
UT Dallas and UT Southwestern Bioengineering are actively collaborating in the Texas Instruments Biomedical Engineering and Sciences Building (TI BMES), which is connected to a medical facility and oncology center. This unique setup provides students direct access to clinical translations and research opportunities.
Degree requirement
To obtain a joint degree from both The University of Texas at Dallas and UT Southwestern Medical Center, students must complete a minimum of one-third of the UT Southwestern Biomedical Engineering credit hours. These requirements can be fulfilled through research credits or organized coursework provided by UT Southwestern.
International students are permitted to enroll in a maximum of 4 credit hours at UTSW during a long semester, while domestic students can take up to 8 credit hours. Additionally, it’s important to note that all students must be registered for at least 1 credit hour at UTD in each semester they are concurrently enrolled.
