The Decade of Excellence Undergraduate Research Program seeks to increase undergraduate student retention and matriculation to graduate school through undergraduate research in bioengineering faculty labs. In the 2021 inaugural year, the program will fund 10 undergraduate biomedical engineering students to conduct research in UTD Bioengineering faculty members’ labs. Each student will be awarded a $4500 stipend plus $500 for supplies. The program will run for 10 weeks, and program participants will work 40 hours per week in the lab.

The program will include:

  • Research in a faculty member’s lab
  • Weekly seminars covering topics such as best practices for research, applying to graduate school, and life as a graduate student
  • Mentorship in the lab by PI, postdocs, and graduate students
  • End-of-program student presentations
  • Social activities for program participants.
  • Participants will research and learn from faculty in the areas of bioimaging, biomaterials, biomechanics, biosensors/bioelectronics, neural engineering, or systems biology.

The program will run from May 17 to July 30, 2021. Students are expected to commit to 40 hours per week of research in the lab and are not permitted to take summer courses.

    Participant Eligibility:
