BIOENGINEERING STUDENT RECOGNIZED FOR WORK ON PASSIVE BREATH PROFILING

Ivneet Banga

Ivneet Banga, a bioengineering PhD student from the Biomedical Microdevices and Nanotechnology Laboratory led by Dr. Shalini Prasad, was recently selected as one of the two runners-up for the Young Chemist Award issued by Metrohm USA. Banga’s research focuses on passive breath profiling for ultrasensitive detection of endogenously produced volative organic compounds (VOCs) using electrochemical methods.

The lab will be working on developing an electrochemical sensing platform using hybrid materials for the ultrasensitive characterization of endogenously produced VOCs. The platform will use the patient’s breath to track endogenously produced volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as a marker for diagnosis of respiratory disease.

“This award is a recognition of my efforts and boosts my morale,” Banga said. “I feel that I am on the right path and should continue working on this project. It certainly helps to be recognized all over North America and especially to stand out among so many applications. I feel immensely proud to call myself a Young Chemist. I believe it is one of the greatest achievements in this field for anyone, and what makes this experience even more special is that I could achieve this so early in my career.”

Congratulations, Ivneet, on this outstanding achievement!
