Undergraduate Research Scholars
The Undergraduate Research Scholars program seeks to increase undergraduate student retention and matriculation to graduate school through undergraduate research in bioengineering faculty labs. In summer 2022, the program will fund up to 22 undergraduate students to conduct research in UTD Bioengineering faculty members’ labs. Each student will be awarded a $4500 stipend plus $500 for supplies. Students not living in the Dallas area will also receive a travel stipend and housing and food. The program will run for 10 weeks, and program participants will work 40 hours per week in the lab.
The program will include:
- Research in a faculty member’s lab
- Weekly seminars covering topics such as best practices for research, applying to graduate school, and life as a graduate student
- Mentorship in the lab by PI, postdocs, and graduate students
- End-of-program student presentations
- Social activities for program participants.
Participants will research and learn from faculty in the areas of bioimaging, biomaterials, biomechanics, biosensors/bioelectronics, neural engineering, or systems biology.
The program will run from May 23 to July 29, 2022. Students are expected to commit to 40 hours per week of research in the lab and are not permitted to take summer courses.
