OVERVIEW
Third-year Ph.D. Student Joseph Epperson works in the Texas Biomedical Device Center under the guidance of Dr. Seth Hays. His research focuses on the research and development of therapies that restore the quality of life lost due to neurological injuries. Joseph leads studies with spinal cord injured participants to determine if algorithmically-delivered vagus nerve stimulation effectively restoring upper limb function when therapy is unsupervised at home. Joseph received his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in neuroscience at UT Dallas in 2020. He received the TxBDC Research Scholarship in 2018 and the Convergence Grant from the Bioengineering Department in 2022. Joseph was recently named a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Riser.
