MEET TED SHI, UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH AWARD RECIPIENT

Ted Shi

Ted Shi, a pre-med student majoring in mathematics, recently won an undergraduate research award presented by the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science for his research entitled “Using Deep Learning to Conduct Cardiac C.T. Image Segmentation”.

“Deep learning already plays an integral role in medicine and has the potential to transform the medical landscape,” Shi said. “I find deep learning fascinating and would like to contribute to the future of medicine.”

Ted is currently researching medical imaging in the Quantitative Bioimaging Laboratory under principal investigator Dr. Baowei Fei.

“I’m extremely grateful for this award as it gives me the opportunity to present my research to faculty and experts at UTD,” Shi said. “I look forward to their input and ideas to help advance my research.”

Shi continued, “I’d like to thank my PI, Dr. Baowei Fei, my mentor, Maysam Shahedi, and all the other lab members for teaching me about the medical imaging field and guiding me through the entire research process.”

Congratulations, Ted, on this great accomplishment! We can’t wait to see where your research will take you!
