BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING GRADUATE PROGRAMs

The Biomedical Engineering industry is rapidly growing in Texas,  particularly in the thriving Dallas-Fort Worth area. Students in the UT Dallas Biomedical Engineering graduate programs benefit from research collaborations, networking, internships, and future career opportunities. Many students are drawn to biomedical engineering because it allows them to serve communities, tackle the complexities of living systems, and leverage advanced technologies to enhance healthcare delivery.

The Department of Bioengineering at The University of Texas at Dallas offer the following graduate programs:

The Department of Bioengineering at The University of Texas at Dallas collaborates with UT Southwestern to allow all bioengineering students to pursue a Joint Degree with the medical school. This partnership enables students to engage in clinical and translational research, offering valuable experiences that can significantly impact their career trajectories.

Biomedical engineering professionals find career opportunities across industry, healthcare, academia, private laboratories, and government agencies. Typically, a biomedical engineer works in a collaborative team environment alongside physical scientists, engineers, clinicians, and life scientists. With the addition of the Health Data Analytics and AI certificate, students can enhance their skills and improve their employability in this dynamic industry.

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING

Estimated Time 2 Years   | 33 Credit hours   | In Person

The Master’s in Biomedical Engineering program aims to develop graduates who are well-equipped to tackle complex projects that necessitate in-depth knowledge of designing mechanical, electrical, and thermal systems tailored to life science applications.

Students can select between a thesis or a non-thesis track, allowing them to personalize their educational experience to align with their career goals and interests.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING

The University of Texas at Dallas offers a fully funded Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program in Biomedical Engineering through RA and TA positions. The primary objective of this program is to cultivate graduates capable of identifying future opportunities within the field, analyzing the current technological landscape, and synthesizing innovative solutions that advance the state of the art in biomedical applications.

With a strong foundation in electrical, mechanical, and materials engineering and a deep understanding of life sciences, our graduates are well-equipped to develop groundbreaking tools, processes, and applications that address complex medical and health-related challenges. PhD graduates will possess the skills to evaluate intricate life sciences issues and devise forward-thinking solutions critically.

For admission into the PhD program, candidates are required to secure a faculty match. Prospective students must submit their applications to the program before reaching out to faculty members regarding potential research opportunities. This structured process ensures students find the right mentorship and research alignment to thrive in their academic journey.

JOINT PROGRAM WITH UT SOUTHWESTERN MEDICAL CENTER
