OVERVIEW

Fourth-year Ph.D. student Andrea Ruiz works in the Texas Biomedical Device Center. Her research focuses on optimizing vagus nerve stimulation as a therapy for the treatment of neurological disorders. Andrea received her B.S. in Neuroscience from UT Dallas in 2012, an M.S. in Cognitive Neuroscience from UT Dallas in 2013, and an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from UT Dallas in 2021. Her interest in exploring the benefits of V.N.S. in the recovery of somatosensory function after peripheral nerve injury, specifically by determining the appropriate paradigms of stimulation. Up to date, her efforts have earned her the TxBDC Fellowship, as well as co-authorship in 10 peer-reviewed scientific publications.
